Weather is one of the most common conversation topics in Norway — Norwegians talk about it constantly, and with good reason. The country has dramatic seasonal variation, and the weather genuinely affects everyday plans in a way it does not in more temperate climates. Learning weather vocabulary early gives you an easy way into small talk with neighbours and colleagues.

A Norwegian saying

The most famous Norwegian weather expression: Det finnes ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlige klær. — "There is no bad weather, only bad clothing." You will hear this constantly if you complain about rain or cold. It captures something genuine about Norwegian outdoor culture and attitude to weather.
